EXPRESS AN INTEREST IN BEING A PARTNER OF ENIGMA II - MANAGING THE IMPACT OF ToBRFV IN THE TOMATO SECTOR

Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) was first identified in Israel in 2014 and affects tomato and sweet pepper crops around the world. It has caused significant economic losses and has the potential to continue to impact commercial production due to reduced crop quality and yield, and the need to implement extra biosecurity measures to minimise risk of infection. The first UK outbreak was reported in June 2019. The virus has led to significant yield and economic loss for UK growers.

With the support of industry partners, 'ENIGMA II' will focus on the following approaches:

  • Decentralised detection and surveillance to improve on site detection methods

  • Understanding resistance and tolerance to ToBRFV in new varieties
